Event returns, hoping to build on the success of last year’s edition

Essex CCC will send a development team to take part in the Newham Cricket Festival at Flanders Field on Bank Holiday Monday.

Following on from the success of last year’s festival, this summer’s event will see four matches take place across 10 hours.

The main event will be the 45-over challenge match that features the Essex development squad, which starts at 11am.

While that game is going on, there will be plenty of action too on other pitches, including a clash between the under-15 sides from Newham and West Ham cricket clubs, which starts the event at 8am.

Following that match at 11am, an under-11s 10-over competition will take place, which is open to all boys and girls living in Newham.

At 2.30pm, an Essex women’s XI will take on an East London representative XI in a T20 clash.

There will also be an awards presentation to the Newham Colts at 2pm, with Newham deputy mayor Ken Clark attending.
