John Coyle (Newham BC) added to his list of title successes when he claimed the Youth 71kg gold medal at the Haringey Box Cup on Sunday, chalking up three wins on the way to the award.

His victory came over Woking Police BC rival Joe D’Santos, who was under pressure from the start as the Newham club hope found the target with effective attacks.

D’Santos tried to turn the bout his way, but Coyle stayed in control of the action and made sure of the verdict from all the ringside judges with a performance that clinched the gold medal.

Coyle had launched his victory march at the tournament, which attracted entries from all over Europe, by beating Norwegian boxer Vegard Jacobsen.

He had too much ability for his rival from Trondheim, switching his attacks from head to body on his way to a unanimous verdict.

Coyle’s semi-final win came over Dale Youth’s Chavez Campbell, who needed the respite of two counts to survive the course with the Newham boxer dictating the contest.
