Newham BC hope John Coyle suffered the disappointment of defeat in the National Boys Clubs’ finals at Harlow on Thursday, when he was ouitpointed by classy Sheffield rival Jack Langford.

Their Class C 71kg encounter proved one of the top finals at the venue with Langford showing his class, building up an early lead as his long-range punches kept Coyle at a distance.

Trailing by a distance going into the final round, Coyle launched an all-out attack, but failed to close the gap as his rival clinched the decision and the National title.

■ Imran Hussain (Newham) was in winning form on the All Stars club show on Friday night with a first-round win over Al Kabir, but junior clubmate Sonny Hunt lost a close points verdict to Geoff Lazenbury (March BC) on the Romford show the same night.

■ Newham BC’s bright prospects go on parade against visiting opposition on the club’s tournament at the East Ham Working Mens’ Club on Friday night. Entrance on the night is £10 and £5 concessions.
