London Youngblood Lions under-14 girls held off Haringey Angels in their derby at St Bonaventure’s.

Tinu Fakunle scored the first two points of the game, with birthday girl Fatama Jenneh doubling the lead soon after.

And good hustle in defence saw Youngbloods force their rivals to lose the ball.

Leia Edwards began the second quarter as she ended with the first, with a fine basket, and Anais Campbell had an immediate impact after joining the action.

The point guard hit a three-point shot in the first minute of the final quarter and, after extending their lead to double figures, Youngbloods went on to finish with a 67-60 win to the delight of coach Charles, who said: “We had an unbelievable start. The high intensity was key to our performance and the desire to win this battle of two good local teams.

“We executed down the stretch offensively as a team. The girls played like warriors and we want more to join us on our journey!”
