Club celebrates at 24-hour event

East End Road Runners were among the trophy winners at the 24-hour Spitfire Scramble weekend in Hornchurch.

The Newham-based club sent five teams of eight to the event, co-ordinated by Asad Muzammal, which proved their biggest turnout yet.

And they also marshalled two points on the course, with newcomers including Emily Bishop, Sam Wilkinson and Marc Upton.

The club claimed the runners-up prize in one of the mixed categories and Claire Adamson celebrated her 40th birthday by completing seven laps of the 5.9-mile course, for a distance of almost 42 miles.

East End Road Runners’ Nick Gorman, meanwhile, competed in his first marathon and anyone wanting more information about the club, which trains on Tuesday and Thursday (7pm) at Newham Leisure Centre, can visit
