Leyton Orient head coach Richie Wellens praised the performance of Jordan Brown in their 2-1 win over League One rivals Reading at the weekend.

Brown fired O's in front at Brisbane Road with a controlled finish, before Tyler Bindon levelled for the visitors.

And George Moncur claimed a last-minute winner to lift O's up to ninth in the table on an emotional day as the club remembered supporter Derek Reynolds, who passed away after an incident in their midweek fixture against Lincoln City.

"I thought Jordan was excellent, he epitomises everything we want to do," Wellens told the club website.

"Picked up pockets, switched play, very good in possession and his technique, you see a lot of players go to side volley that and skew it over or scuff it into the ground and it hits bodies, but we know technically he's a really good footballer.

"We don't want to rush him, we want to produce him and keep him coming along.

"Once he learns the characteristics in terms of character and leadership skills, motivational skills and vocal skills in midfield, which midfield players need because they're knitted to every part of the game, I think he's going to be a really good player."

Max Sanders also caught the eye for the home side, before suffering another injury blow and making way for Moncur in the first half.

And while having sympathy for Sanders, Wellens was pleased to see Moncur pop up with the late winner.

"He [Sanders] was in a really good rhythm and maybe him coming off upset our rhythm a little bit," he added.

"You can see from the time he spent on the pitch, especially in that eight role, a little bit more advanced, his quality in the final third, his energy.

"We're disappointed. He broke his toe, then he got ill, and he's found it difficult to get back in the team. But we finally think he's up and running and it's a potential hamstring.

"We weren't great from our corners, mainly on the delivery, but we got that delivery spot-on, and I'm pleased for 'Moncs'.

"He has had it hard over the last couple of weeks, coming out of the team, but great character, great lad, great person to work with every single day and I'm pleased he got the winner."

O's are set to make the long trip to Carlisle this weekend, but Wellens will be without a couple of members of his squad due to international duty.

But despite other injuries, he is confident he has the squad to cope, adding: "Omar [Beckles] has been called up [by Grenada], Ed Turns has been called up [Wales U21s], Ethan Galbraith doesn't look like he's going to come off the [Northern Ireland[ standby list, so we'll have to wait and see.

"I don't really want to change the team at the moment, we look fluid in a lot of areas, but if that's the case, we have to rejig things.

"Jordan Graham is so unlucky, he felt a tight hamstring, we took him out of the team, I thought TJ [Tom James] was excellent, he got the game back on our terms.

"We have got a big squad, we've got really good lads who are training well who if we lose a couple are ready to take their spot."
