London Lions secured a second consecutive WBBL Championship after beating Caledonia Gladiators 79-60 in Glasgow.

The team has been dominant in the league this season with the latest success pushing their record to 19 wins and just one loss.

The Gladiators went into the game with optimism being the only team to beat the Lions at the Copper Box Arena in February, but ultimately the London team’s experience and talent secured them the win.

Mikiah Herbert Harrigan and Katsiaryna Snytsina led the team on the night - both scoring 18 points and five rebounds to drive the Lions onto a 19-point victory.

The team are positioned as one of the most dominant outfits in UK sport after their 52-game unbeaten domestic streak which came to an end earlier this season.

This was the latest accomplishment for the team after they achieved invincibility in the WBBL Championship last season, winning all 34 domestic games by an average margin of 40 points.

This season, the team has already secured the WBBL Cup in January and the WBBL Trophy in March, winning every domestic competition they have competed in.

Stella Kaltsidou's squad is blessed with talent and experience with every player contributing to the team's success.

The Lions' focus now shifts to the WBBL play-offs as they look to emulate their record-breaking domestic clean sweep from last season.

The popularity of the sport continues to rise in the UK as the Lions welcomed a record crowd of 1,170 for their WBBL Championship game against Leicester Riders on Sunday.

London Lions player Azania Stewart said: "It's a fantastic moment for us to win the WBBL Championship. Caledonia are a great team and played brilliantly to beat us earlier in the season but we are a team who continue to develop and evolve and we played a great game to secure the victory.

"We are battle-tested and have overcome adversity throughout this season. I am so proud of my team, my individual goal was to go back to back and complete another domestic clean sweep - there's one more to win and we are now focused on the WBBL play-offs."

General manager Vanja Cernivec added: “I’m extremely proud of this group, all credit goes to our players and staff who have stuck together.

"Their level of commitment, sacrifice and dedication to achieve a common goal has been amazing.

"I would also like to recognise and congratulate the WBBL league and all the teams involved who have stepped up this season and competed at a high level. We look forward to the WBBL play-offs ahead.”
