Imagine your home is flooded, you and your family have nowhere to go. How would you cope, more importantly how would the authorities manage?

Tomorrow, you get to help Newham Council hone its disaster response in a flood exercise. All you have to do is head to Beckton Community Centre, in East Ham Manor Way in Beckton between 9am and 4.30pm.

Once there you will be welcomed by rest centre staff who will register your details including your name and address. They will also provide refreshments throughout the day.

You don’t need to register, just arrive at a time that suits you and take part in the exercise for as long as you want. You will be helping the council practice its plans for evacuation in the event of a disaster.

The event is part of a national programme, Exercise Watermark.
