TO celebrate World Asthma Day staff from the Newham Asthma Clinic will be holding an awareness event on Tuesday May 6
It will take place at Shrewsbury Road Clinic, Forest Gate from 10am to 1pm. Patients, visitors and staff can have tests that measure the amount of air blown out of the lungs to find out whether they have problems with their airways and get general advice about the condition.
Respiratory Nurse Piasilie Simon, said: "We are looking forward to taking this opportunity to raise awareness about asthma.
"It is estimated that 75 per cent of hospital admissions are preventable and roughly two million people in the UK are suffering unnecessarily because of a lack of asthma management due to being unaware of the treatment available.
"Don't miss this opportunity to find out what you need to know."
Asthma affects more than five million people in the UK and causes 70,000 hospital admissions and 1,400 deaths each year.
World Asthma Day is organised by the Global Initiative for Asthma in collaboration with health care groups and asthma educators to raise awareness and to improve asthma care.
