Shoppers were evacuated from Westfield Stratford City after a fire broke out.

The Metropolitan Police said a fire alarm had been activated at around 5.15pm on Saturday.

Police officers set up a cordon around the shopping centre as London Fire Brigade crews and paramedics rushed to the scene.

Firefighters identified and dealt with a “small fire”, a Met spokesperson said.

“We are not aware of any serious injury,” they added.

Police cordons were lifted shortly before 6pm and the shopping centre re-opened.

The Met spokesperson said: “At this early stage, the incident is not believed to be suspicious.

“We will work with London Fire Brigade and the Westfield Shopping Centre to establish the cause of the fire.”
