Remember the crowds, the queing and excitement at Westfield Stratford City? It may feel as though it was lifetime ago but it was just a year ago.

The 1.9 million sq ft shoppers mecca opened its doors to the public on September 13 last year and has lost no time in establishing itself as a premier destination for retail and leisure.

A spokeswoman for Westfield Stratford City said it has broken shopping centre footfall records welcoming around 47 million shoppers in its first year of trading.

It also attracted 8.5 million visits during the Olympics and Paralympics. Ticket holders, shoppers and athletes took advantage of the 30 per cent increase in trading hours, giving Westfield and its retailers unprecedented exposure to a global audience.

The centre’s strong performing footfall also attracted some of the world’s biggest brands to launch their first stores in the UK.
