Bosses at Westfield shopping centre had to react quickly when it was discovered that many of the signs at the retail mecca written in Arabic were garbled.

The shopping centre, through which most visitors to the Olympic Park site will have to walk through, displayed welcome signs in a variety of languages but managed to print the Arabic ones back-to-front.

Chris Doyle, from the Council for Advancing Arab-British Relations, said: “It beggars belief they cannot even write ‘welcome’ in Arabic. What will our Olympic guests be thinking? It is cringe-worthy.”

A Westfield spokesperson said: “Westfield sincerely apologises for the incorrect printing of the welcome material. The material has been reprinted and replaced.”
