East Ham’s Central Park played host to a musical spectacular this weekend as Under The Stars returned for its 15th year.
More than 40,000 people braved the weather to enjoy free entertainment from a diverse range of performers.
The four day event kicked off on Thursday with soul singers Sister Sledge and jazz band Beggar & Co taking to the stage.
They were joined on the bill by young East Ham singer James Anderson, a 2011 finalist of Britain’s Got Talent.
Friday evening saw 9,000 people embrace different cultures with bhangra and qawwali music and bollywood dancing.
Tribute was the name of the game on Saturday, with U2-2 and The Counterfeit Stones paying homage to two popular rock bands.
Sunday’s finale featured the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, who performed music to commemorate the centenary of the First World War and a celebration of Newham hosting the Rugby World Cup next year.
Mayor of Newham, Sir Robin Wales, took to the stage to lead the 13,000 flag-waving residents in a rendition of I’m Forver Blowing Bubbles.
He said: “Once again Under the Stars has proved a massive success. We’ve been hosting these free music nights for 15 years now and as long as people keep coming and we are able to put them on, then we will.
“We have seen another wonderfully positive and friendly event where people of all ages and backgrounds have enjoyed an exciting mix of music and musical styles.”
The evening was rounded off in style with a spectacular fireworks display, set to music from the orchestra.
