Formula One fans not lucky enough to get to Silverstone for Lewis Hamilton’s British Grand Prix victory had the next best experience in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.
The F1 Fanzone at the International Quarter saw about 5,000 motor sports enthusiasts get their fix with a big screen showing all the action, F1 training simulators, a “drift” driving experience, and a range of F1 cars on show.
It’s the first time the fanzone, which has become a staple at other Grand Prix events worldwide, has come to the capital.
Carlo Boutagy, founder of the fanzone, said: “It was great to see the home crowd gathered around the large screens at the first ever F1 FanZone in London, cheering on Lewis Hamilton as he won the British Grand Prix. I’m looking forward to next year’s event, which will be even bigger and better.” In a nod to the glamour of the pre-race starting grid, the F1 Grid Girls were also out and about greeting fans over the event from Friday to Sunday.
