Businesses in Manor Park are counting the cost after vandals attacked their premises with paint.
Large balls of white paint appear to have been thrown directly at shopfronts in High Street North, as well as on the pavement and at a bus stop.
The perpetrators, who carried out the mindless acts overnight on March 5 to 6, have not been caught.
Sumathi Thiru, owner of Lakshmi Jewellers, said two young men were spotted on CCTV committing the offences in the early hours.
She said: “The paint is oil so we are going to have to pay someone to clean it up, I’m not sure how much it will cost yet.
“We only put our sign up a couple of years ago. Customers have been asking us about it.
“This area is getting worse and worse. It is not as bad as it was four or five years ago though.”
Endip Rai, manager of Fast Track Mortgages, called the vandalism “a bit of shock”.
But it did not quite grab the attention of all the stores. One worker from Bluebird Estates Limited said she had not even noticed.
