It might be an outdoor sport of vast green fairways and well-trimmed lawns, but golf is has reached the big city.
Boasting more buses than bunkers, “urban golf” came to the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park on Friday, May 16, with the UK’s first ever Cross Golf Open.
Delivered by Community Golf, the new annual tournament saw some of the nation’s top players compete for a place representing the UK in the European Urban Golf Cup (EUGC), which was held the following day.
Richard Shaw, founder and director of Community Golf said: “Now people have experienced and seen Cross Golf in action at the Olympic Park, we’re excited to get more people involved in the future!
“Across the two days we had players of all ages from three to retirement, and from golf pros and experienced cross golfers from all over Europe to people who had never picked up a club. “This has been a chance to see how golf is adapting to the new demands of golfers and interested non-golfers.”
