You wouldn’t want to mess with Ryan Bernarte, a 14-year-old who has been named as a world karate champion.
He is one three students training at East London Tang Soo Do who were chosen to compete alongside 1,700 others at the recent world championships in North Carolina.
Ryan, whose dad, Rommel, is the instructor at the Upton Park club, won three gold medals.
Fellow club member Vincent Fong won two gold medals and a silver, while Mohammed Islam won bronze.
Master Bernarte said: “They trained extremely hard for this competition. With hard work they accomplished their set goals and exceeded them.
“I am extremely proud to be their instructor and to have been part of their individual journeys and hope to bring more success in the near future.”
