Police discovered a cannabis factory when visiting a resident over unpaid bills in Plaistow.

Officers found 300 cannabis plants after attending an address in Jedburgh Road, last Thursday, with a warrant issued due to unpaid gas and electricity bills.

When conducting a search of the house officers found that the three first floor rooms and the loft were being used for the production of cannabis.

The property had been set up to abstract electricity.

Electronic scales, mobile phones and More than 40 electrical bulbs were discovered, each using 600 watts of power.

PC Muhammad Ali, said: “We have recovered a significant amount of cannabis which would have been sold on the streets of the borough, as well as dismantling a factory and making a dent in the pockets of local criminals.

“Anyone with information relating to this incident or even just a suspicion that a property might be used as a cannabis factory should call us in confidence.”

The property was made safe by the energy company.

No arrests were made and enquiries continue.
