Head down to East Ham next week as Newham’s musical extravaganza Under the Stars is back for the 16th year running.

Whatever your musical taste, this year’s line-up in Central Park promises to bring top talent from different parts of the world to one stage.

The free four-day spectacle will host a number of stars from soul and bhangra, as well as cheeky appearances from a variety of TV personalities.

The event, from Thursday to Sunday, will kick off with chart-topper, and one of reggae’s biggest stars, Maxi Priest. He will be followed by reggae band Aswad and “queen of lovers rock”, Janet Kay.

Bhangra fans should head to the park on Friday to see Asian musical superstar, Sukshinder Shinda. He is supported by Jassi Sidhu, YouTube sensation Hussnain Lahori, Brit Asia Superstar finalist Rubayyat Jahan and Raja Kashif.

On Saturday evening, guests are in for an extra special treat with a performance from the original band members of Hot Chocolate, the group that sang You Sexy Thing, a track that was immortalised in hit nineties film The Full Monty.

On the final night, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, under the baton of conductor Paul Bateman, will be returning to the stage for a classical music set.

Children from Newham’s Every Child a Musician programme, known as The ECaM Stars Orchestra, will also take to the stage to entertain the crowd and showcase their skills.

Sir Robin Wales, Mayor of Newham, said: ?”Under the Stars is always hugely popular and this year promises to be just as spectacular as ever.

“I am proud to be able to offer such a spectacular line-up free to all our residents.”

The entire spectacle will be brought to an unforgettable finale with a fireworks display.

Sir Robin Wales, Mayor of Newham, added: ”With Newham’s 50th anniversary and the borough hosting five games of Rugby World Cup 2015, there’s plenty to celebrate this year.

“Events such as Under the Stars are a great way to recognise everything that is great about Newham, from our diverse population to our very talented young people. I look forward to seeing residents of all ages and backgrounds coming together to enjoy a wide range of music.”

Gates open at Central Park in High Street South at 6.30pm.
