Two Newham projects have received a funding boost totalling £102,990 —a large part of which will help create a new riverside space.
The Gasworks Dock Partnership was awarded £79,990 towards regenerating the Cody Dock, a former gasworks, on South Crescent, Canning Town.
The grant from The Veolia Environmental Trust will help fund a wide reaching clean-up of the area along with work to make it more accessible by installing footpaths, handrails and a toilet.
A variety of features such as raised beds will be also be put in to make the space greener and more inviting to people, along with birds, bugs, and animals. The work will be the first stage of a long-term project to completely redevelop the dock.
The trust also awarded £23,000 to Plaistow’s Memorial Community Church to fund the replacement of windows: a French window and leaking skylights at their Welcome Centre on Barking Road. The centre is used by different community projects.
