A pedestrian was killed in a road accident at East Ham in east London during the night.

The 35-year-old man died in Barking Road at the traffic light junction with High Street North at midnight.

London air-ambulance paremedics from Whitechapel were called in as an ambulance crew tried to save the man’s life, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Two people in the vehicle involved left the scene of the accident, said police.

Two men were later arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, Scotland Yard confirmed this-morning. They were in custody and being questioned at an east London police station.

Police are waiting for formal identification before releasing the name of the man who was killed.

They are appealling for witnesses who may have been in Barking Road in East Ham at around 12 mindnight, or anyone with information, to call the Met’s Investigation Unit on 020-8597 4874.
