Orient captain responds to last week’s media reports of ‘turmoil’ at the club.

Leyton Orient skipper Nathan Clarke feels last week’s media reports of disharmony in the O’s camp have only spurred them on even more.

Orient picked up their first win of 2015 with a 3-2 success at Chesterfield on Saturday, but media reports last week suggested all was not well in the O’s dressing room.

However, the 31-year-old insists it couldn’t be further from the truth, and has instead united them even more to make sure they avoid relegation.

“Shock more than anything,” when asked of his overriding emotion when hearing of the media reports. “It’s shock and disappointment. If it has come out and I know for a fact it is not one of my players.

“They are a good group who are desperate to get out of this mess. We stick together and we bat off all the negatives and turn it into a positive, which we did at Chesterfield.

“I am disappointed that players have been singled out for wages, for not putting in effort or desire. Being captain I am disappointed to see it and disappointed people are pointing the finger at certain people.

“It’s a team game. The team has not done well this season, but it is not down to one person. It is down to a group of us, the staff and how we act in training.

“We are desperate to prove people wrong. That is something that has spurred us on now. We are a good group and I think we need to turn that into a positive.

“The disappointment of previous months is behind us now and we want to start a new chapter and that begins with the win at Chesterfield.”

The reports also suggested players in the dressing room doubted the ability of striker Gianvito Plasmati and that is another thing that has upset the skipper.

“I am disappointed that this has come out because I know a lot of people at the club, especially the people like Vito who is devastated that somebody has gone to the press saying that we doubt his ability,” added Clarke.

“It’s ridiculous. The lad has come in under difficult circumstances. The team is not doing well, nobody is really shining and he is come under a little bit of flack.

“I am disappointed that people’s names have been brought out and it is down to us, me as captain and staff to get round big Vito because he is one of the characters of this team.”
