Organised by food charities FareShare and The Trussell Trust, donations will go to foodbanks and community groups over the holidays.

There’ll be collection points at Tescos across the borough from November 29 to December 1, with Tesco topping up donations by a further 20 per cent.

Last year, 3.34 million meals were collected.

Volunteers are also needed to hand out shopping lists to customers, so they can see what food is needed in their area.

CEO of Tesco UK, Jason Tarry, said: “Together we can make a real difference this Christmas. Our customers have been incredibly generous in recent years and with the help of volunteers we hope to collect even more this year to support those who really need it.”

Volunteers collect an average of 600 meals per three-hour shift. To sign up, visit fareshare.org.uk/get-involved/tesco-food-collection or trusselltrust.org/get-involved/tesco-food-collection/volunteer.
