Five new electric buses are set to run between Canning Town and Mile End.

The zero emission vehicles will serve route 323, which takes in Bow School and St Paul’s Way Trust School, and are aimed at improving air quality in the area.

The fleet will be based at West Ham bus garage, where they will be charged overnight, saving money as electricity prices are cheaper when demand is lower.

Philip Heathcote, head of markets at UK Power Networks Services, said: “This project is another signal of the capital’s intent for all buses to be zero-emission by 2037.

"We are delighted to play a key role in ensuring electric buses can take to the road and provide the area with a clean and sustainable mode of public transport.”

Paul Lynch, regional director for Stagecoach London, added: “This latest investment in London will help to ensure that we are continuing to lead the way in delivering cleaner air.”
