Traffic is able to flow past the scene of an earlier fatality as both lanes along the A13 have been opened by police after nearly seven hours.
Investigations are still ongoing into the death of a man who fell from the Gooseley Lane footbridge, East Ham, and was then in collision with a lorry travelling westbound on the arterial road just after 5am today.
Ambulance crews pronounced the man dead at shortly before 6am and police had shut down the entire westbound carriageway causing severe traffic delays to both motorists and buses, only reopening it fully at about midday.
Traffic police, fire brigade crews two ambulances and the crew from London’s Air Ambulance travelled by road to the scene.
A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “Despite extensive efforts from our staff, sadly the patient was pronounced dead at the scene by the doctor from the air ambulance.”
Pictures of the incident taken later on show a white lorry pulled to the side of the road with a blue police tent in front of it, while crash scene experts got to work.
Enquiries are ongoing and a post-mortem examination is due to take place.
