The co-founder of the Christmas Toy Appeal – and former editor of The Recorder – has raised more than ever before with his annual swim.

Colin Grainger has taken the plunge and paddled 50 lengths every year to raise money for the campaign since he helped to found it in 1978.

The 62-year-old had hoped to raise £250 this year, but surpassed his own expectations, thanks to two gifts of £200 and £100 gift from anonymous donors.

This year’s round of the aquatic antics took place at the Central Park pool in Romford.

“The last 10 or 15 lengths were a bit of a struggle,” he admitted.

“I think next year I might do it over two days!”

Colin will be presenting the cheque at the Toy Appeal quiz tomorrow (Thurs) at Community Links, Barking Road, Canning Town.
