A box brimming with books was bestowed on the Newham Recorder and Community Links Christmas Toy Appeal.

Long-time appeal supporters Newham Bookshop presented the donation to Paula Blake of Community Links yesterday morning.

“We’ve taken part for many, many, many years,” said manager Vivian Archer.

“It’s just really important that every child is able to open something on Christmas Day.”

The Barking Road, Plaistow bookshop said it wanted to support the campaign to help give a festive gift to youngsters who would not receive one otherwise.

Newham Bookshop is one of 24 drop-off points for donations for this year’s Toy Appeal.

The stop is open between 9am and 5pm Tuesdays to Saturdays.

Earlier this year Newham Bookshop raised almost £4,000 for those affected by the Grenfell Tower fire.
