Keen cyclists at a Newham secondary school came face-to-face with the official Grand Départ trophy for the Tour de France.
The trophy was at Rokeby School earlier today to help celebrate the prestigious event passing through the borough later this year.
A TfL representative and a member of a local cycling club gave a talk about the route and answered pupils’ questions during a special assembly.
Assistant headteacher Grant Leppard admitted both students and staff alike were enthused by the trophy’s arrival, especially as they were only informed of the visit yesterday.
“It was fantastic,” he said. “We are all very excited about the route coming so close to the school.”
Rokeby School promotes cycling to students and offers a six week cycling proficiency course which teaches pupils road safety.
