They might be riding too fast to get a good look, but Tour de France competitors will pass by a special bicycle-themed shopfront as they whizz through Plaistow.
Barbara Sewell, owner of Sewell’s Florist in Plaistow Road, spent two days wrapping a bike in yellow ribbon before topping it with daffodils and adding bunting and Union flag balloons.
Yellow jersey hopefuls, including current leader Vincenzo Nibali, will cycle straight past her shop enroute to the Olympic Park this afternoon, during stage three of the competition.
Barbara, whose family have owned the shop since 1938, said passersby had been taking photos of her shopfront all morning as they gathered to watch the race.
“It’s good because it [the event] gets people together,” she said. “A lot of people nowadays don’t ever talk to each other but at these kind of events everybody mixes together, all sections of the community.”
