People from all parts of Newham are coming together today in street parties to celebrate the marriage of Prince William and Catherine Middleton, which is taking place now.

Around 80 parties are taking place at various locations, which will mean some roads will be closed or partially closed to vehicles and cyclists all day. Pedestrian access is not affected.

Mayor of Newham Sir Robin Wales said: “I am delighted so many residents have taken the time and effort to organise parties. The council joins them in offering congratulations to Prince William and Catherine Middleton and hope that have a long and happy life together.

“We have tried to make it as easy as possible for people to hold royal wedding parties with support from us through small amounts of funding, free bunting and help to close roads.

“People of all ages and cultures will be getting together and having fun. It’s a great way to show how we’ll be celebrating when the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games come to town next year.”

We will have pictures from the parties here and galleries on our sister website london24.com and you can see a royal wedding picture special in our print edition next Wednesday.
