The country’s first ever superhero “training centre” where aspiring Avengers will be put through their paces will open in Newham later this month.
Marvel is bringing the Avengers S.T.A.T.I.O.N to the UK after Newham Council agreed planning permission for the 1,500 sqm development at the Excel Centre.
Known as “Earth’s mightiest heroes”, the Avengers team includes Spiderman, Thor, Iron Man, Hulk, Captain America and Black Widow.
Comic writer Stan Lee, who co-created the Avengers characters as well as the Fantastic Four, Daredevil and the X-Men, died aged 95 on Monday.
Stan revitalised the comics industry with his superhero universe and changed the face of popular culture.
The new “immersive experience” based around his characters will open in a specially designed circus tent on November 29.
Fans will be able to find out the back story of each Avenger before training to become an agent of the S.T.A.T.I.O.N – the Science Training and Tactical Intelligence Operative Network.
Creative director Nathan Stone said: “We have started conversations about having a tribute to Stan during the event, but we are in the early stages.”
Props from the film Marvel film franchise, which is owned by Disney, will be on display and include Thor’s hammer, Captain America’s uniform and Iron Man’s suit. Visitors will also be able to take a trip around Bruce Banner’s lab and experience a simulated flight inside one of Tony Stark’s suits.
MJR Group, the events company running the project, was given permission for the attraction to stay open for 18 months.
But bosses said they will initially take a four month run with the option to stay open longer.
The experience has already travelled to New York, Singapore, Seoul, Paris, Beijing, Taipei and Las Vegas.
Mr Stone added: “Our generation grew up with Stan Lee’s hugely influential characters, both heroes and villains and It’s fantastic to see the franchise being passed on to the next generation with the huge response from families. “The S.T.AT.I.O.N is only open in London for a very limited amount of time.
“It brings movie props and costumes to a training academy situation alongside interactive elements that are fun for families and super fans alike.”
