Twelve supermarket colleagues have united to redecorate the home of a non-league football club.

Clapton FC, who play in the Essex Senior League and have several junior teams, saw their clubhouse spruced up thanks to volunteers from Tesco stores all over the borough.

Their Old Spotted Dog Ground in Upton Lane was given a fresh lick of paint, meaning the club, who were founded in 1878, can start the new season in style.

The club’s commercial manager Esmond Syfox said: “Sincere thanks to the Tesco team for all that they have done to improve the features at the club.”

The redecoration was part of Tesco’s aim to support local communities through appointing a community champion for each borough, helping to engage employees with the area in which they work.
