A Stratford theatre has been awarded nearly �20,000 by the Evening Standard to run a project to promote the health and wellbeing of Newham’s over-60s.
The IROKO Theatre Company, which is based in Mark Street, was given �19,833 by the Evening Standard Dispossessed Fund to run its ‘Forgotten Folks’ project.
The funding, part of a �1 million grant recently distributed to charities by the Evening Standard will enable IROKO to offer free music-making, gentle movement and arts and craft workshops for older people in Newham. The Prime Minister, David Cameron said “I am delighted that another �1 million is being distributed to great charities that will transform the lives of more people.”
Alex Oma-Pius, Chief Executive of IROKO, said: “These activities will be the perfect opportunity for our Over 60’s to meet new people and take part in stimulating art activities while having fun at the same time”.
