EASING the squeeze, longer trains have been launched on the Docklands Light Railway from Stratford to Lewisham with an extra third carriage increasing capacity by half during the morning peak while preparing the network for travellers to the 2012 Olympic Games.
London Mayor’s adviser Kulveer Ranger said: “We are determined to make sure everyone, visitors and residents, are able to travel to events quickly and comfortably.”
DLR Director Jonathan Fox, said the extra seats will allow more than a thousand extra passengers to travel on this route every hour and mean less crowding at stations.
Games’ chiefs welcomed the expansion of 55 new carriages added to the DLR fleet as part of a �100m programme.
* The DLR currently carries almost 70 million people a year with an all time record for passenger number set earlier this month when 303,000 journeys were made on the network - up 11 per cent from the same day last year.
