The new chairwoman of Stratford Rising has vowed to help make east London a “brilliant place to live, work and visit”.

Sue Robertson said it was a privilege to be asked to head up the arts, cultural and education consortium following the departure of Kerry Michael, who helped found the group.

“The pace of change in this area of London is extraordinary following the Olympic and Paralympic Games and the arts have a vital role to play in ensuring a bright long-term future for all,” Sue said.

She is currently vice-chair of Soho theatre and a member of Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre and most recently worked as principal of Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts, having previously been dean of the School of Arts at City University.

The aims of Stratford Rising include supporting the growth of the area as a cultural centre and building its reputation.
