A poker dealer is swapping cards for cues as he competes for the prize pot in the World Pool Championship.

Croupier Joe Prince, 25, has worked at Aspers Casino, Stratford, since it opened two years ago, but has been playing pool since he was 13 having previously represented England in national tournaments.

If he wins the eight ball amateur tournament in Blackpool later this month he could be walking away with a cool £10,000.

Joe has previously finished in the top 16 at the world championships, but hopes to go even further this year.

“I’m playing well at the moment and hope that my form will carry me through to the latter stages,” he said. “It would be a dream come true to make it to the final”.

Richard Smith, Aspers Casino general manager, said: “We are delighted to be supporting Joe in his attempt to win the world championships. We wish him the very best of luck in Blackpool – we hope that he brings back more than a stick of rock.”
