Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park’s waterways have been given a £1.75million boost after plans to restore Carpenters Road lock were given the go-ahead this week.
The project is the final part of a 10-year programme put in place by the Canal and River Trust to restore and preserve London’s industrial heritage.
Heritage adviser Florence Salberter said: “With the popularity these days of the adjacent River Lea, and Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park becoming a new hub for London, this couldn’t be a better time for us to be able to bring it back into use and help create a new chapter for the lock and local waterways.”
Once finished, the lock gates will provide the opportunity to navigate the waterways around the Olympic Stadium.
