A Stratford-based housing association has transformed an unused space in Ilford into a welcoming lounge for job-seeking parents.
It is hoped that parents will make the most of the fun, colourful space in East Thames housing association’s office in Sylvain Road, and bring their children along to training and job advice sessions, so childcare won’t be a barrier to seeking help.
The transformation comes thanks to people taking the construction skills course - and gave them work experience in a trade as well as a chance to give back.
The furniture was donated by Higgins Construction from a regeneration project in Hackney.
Nicola Brown, an employment and enterprise co-ordinator for East Thames said “We’re so grateful to everyone who has helped us make this project a reality. We offer employment support from dedicated local hubs because it’s important to bring our services direct to the communities that need them. We hope opening this space will benefit people in Ilford wanting to move into work.”
