The Stratford Centre has reopened following a security alert.
The shopping mall was cordoned off for several hours while officers investigated a “suspicious incident” within the centre.
Scores of shoppers and traders were ordered to leave the building at around 9.45 this morning.
The High Street and the Broadway were closed to traffic, with bus routes serving the area subject to diversions and delays as they were unable to serve the bus station.
The centre, along with the bus station and surrounding roads, reopened at around 1pm.
The Metropolitan Police confirmed the incident had been resolved.
In a statement, a spokesman for the Stratford Centre said: “Sratford Centre was evacuated this morning as a precautionary measure, due to a possible security threat.
“Appropriate procedures were put in place for the safety of all.
“Stratford Shopping Centre has been working with the police and a full investigation of the site has taken place.”
It was also confirmed that a full sweep of the mall and the surrounding area took place and nothing suspicious was recovered.
Stratford station and Westfield Stratford City were not affected.
