A housing association was placed in Great Britain's top 100 employers in terms of its treatment of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) employees.
The LGBT charity Stonewall announced its workplace equality index, placing Newham’s L&Q at 64, after it established HouseProud, a sector-wide support network for LGBT staff.
Released on Monday last week, the index shows the progress L&Q has made from being ranked 194th three years ago.
Tom Nicholls, L&Q’s human resources director, said the firm, which manages more than 2,600 homes in the borough, was pleased of the recognition.
“We are very proud to be named one of the best places to work in the UK for LGBT staff by Stonewall again this year,” he said. “Diversity is one of our core values and so being recognised for our continued efforts to be an inclusive employer is excellent news.”
The top 100 index was created using 60,506 responses to surveys which invited respondents to state how comfortable they felt being open about their sexuality at work.
Of the responses, 11,980 were from LGBT employees.
