A small North Woolwich charity combating youth street crime has been shortlisted for a big award.
Based in Woodman Street since 2007, the Fight For Peace Academy, in Woodman Street, combines boxing and martial arts with education and personal development to keep young people aged 11 to 25 from turning to violence.
The charity has been shortlisted for the national “Small Charity, Big Achiever” accolade in the Third Sector Excellence Awards 2012 which recognises the work of charities and voluntary organisations.
Fight for Peace will compete for the prize with four other charities; Beauchamp Lodge Settlement, CU Trust, FoodCycle, and Jigsaw Support Scheme before the presentation at the Lancaster Hotel in central London on September 27.
