A comedy duo consisting of a nerdy uncle and his mute nephew is just one of the acts performing at a Forest Gate comedy night on Thursday.

Raymond and Mr Timpkins Revue’s “immature” and “slapstick” (Mr Timpkin’s own words) act has taken them around the world and this week they will perform at The Wanstead Tap’s Totally Tapped comedy night.

“We’re a contemporary, show hall type of act,” Tony Timpkins, one half of the duo, said.

“It’s immature and slapstick, based on a mis-interpretation of song lyrics from the 1920’s to today’s chart.

“The music is quite cheesy and includes number one hits from across the decades.

“Don’t take it as our personal choice of music,” he joked.

Tony and Andy Raymond have been working together for more than 30 years.

They were both members of a electro-dance band in the 80s but have been a professional comedy duo since 1999 when they won Jongleurs Best New Act.

And eccentric duo Mr Timpkins, a cycle helmet, dinner jacket wearing mad uncle, and Raymond, his beanie-hatted nephew, have been entertaining audiences ever since, performing at places including Glastonbury and the Falkland Islands.

“Our characters are an exaggeration of our positions as a partnership but also as friends.

“I’m very anal about paperwork and the business side whereas Andy is much more laid back and in your face.

“I like to think we both compliment one another but I think if I was in the audience I’d prefer Andy’s character as he is more flamboyant and has no regard for anything,” Tony said.

The pair credit their uniqueness for their success.

“We are a double act and there are not many of those left now.

“We’ve been told that we are breaking the current comedy agenda; we’re not young or cool. We’re doing our own thing and no one has ever done what we’re doing before,” Tony added.

Other acts taking to the stage at the Winchealsea Road restaurant include The Two Johns, a musical comedy double act that push things to (and past) the limit and Mat Ewins, who specialises in stand up, character and sketch.

The event starts at 8pm and tickets cost £10.
