Leyton Orient boss Russell Slade praised his side’s second half turnaround to keep up their unbeaten start to the League One season at Oldham Athletic yesterday.

The O’s were second best in the opening period ar Boundary Park, and duly found themselves behind when former Orient striker Charlie MacDonald pounced.

But his side improved greatly in the second half and the substitution of Shaun Batt helped the Brisbane Road outfit level after he got the faintest of touches on Kevin Lisbie’s goalbound shot.

And Slade was pleased with the response he got from his side in the second half.

“We needed a response, by our standards it wasn’t a great first half,” said Slade.

“We knew we could do better and that we had another gear. We stepped up in the second period and we looked like the side more likely to go and win.”

The introduction of Batt did cause the Latics defence some problems and the O’s chief was delighted with his impact.

“Shaun can do that,” he added. “He’s had his injuries but there’s no doubt about it that he is a real threat on the pitch again and he proved that today.

“There wasn’t any ranting and raving at the break, it was just a question of getting our standard somewhere near where we have had it all season and I felt we did that. But in the end I felt we showed what we are about in the second half.”
