Turning 80 is a time that many people choose to slow down and relax - but not Sir Ian McKellen.

The actor will be celebrating his milestone birthday next year by taking a new show to 80 venues around the country - including at the Theatre Royal Stratford East.

Sir Ian, who lives in nearby Tower Hamlets, explained: “I’ve long been a supporter of the pioneering work of Stratford East and I never miss the annual pantomime.

“I’m thrilled to be making my début as part of the London tour of my new solo show and to support Theatre Royal’s work with young people in the community.”

All profits from the shows will go to charity, with those from the Theatre Royal event, taking place on Sunday, March 10 going to the theatre.

Tickets are available from ianonstage.co.uk
