Festive cheer and home-made goods filled Newham Sixth Form College as it held a market celebrating young entrepeneurship.

Hundreds of bargain hunters searched for early Christmas presents at Plaistow’s winter youth market, which was hosted by the college students as part of a young enterprise project at the college in Prince Regent Lane, Plaistow on Saturday.

The community-led event was organised by youngsters in partnership with Plaistow South Big Local, an independent community initiative which aimsto make the area a better place to live.

NewVic business student, Atifa Zafreen, said: “We learnt a lot from this challenging but enjoyable experience.

“We were able to improvise and adapt our product and truly learnt the art of teamwork.“

Visitors and stall holders were treated to some originally penned music performed by pupils from nearby Cumberland School.

West Ham MP Lyn Brown and Stephen Timms, MP for East Ham, both made an appearance at the market on the day.
