Eleven streets in Plaistow are to be hit with tough new parking restrictions after residents and businesses backed a change.

They were among 19 roads Newham Council was considering bringing within the Prince Regent controlled parking zone.

Permits will now be required to park in the affected streets between 8am and 10pm every day, although some streets in the west of the zone will see the hours cut from 8am to 6.30pm.

Those in the remaining eight roads rejected the change, with some concerned the restriction could lead to a drop in trade for local businesses and deter people from visiting friends.

The 11 streets joining the zone are: Caraway Close; Chalk Road; Cumberland Road (from Holborn Road to Denmark Street); Egham Road; Haig Road West; Jedburgh Road (west of New City Road); Liddon Road; New Barn Street; Seaton Close; Salomons Road and Upperton Road West.
