The Canning Town flyover is closed eastbound and has only one lane open in the westbound direction while emergency resurfacing works take place.

A diversion is in operation but alternative routes around the area, such as the East India Dock Tunnel and the A12 junction at Poplar, are also busy.

The spillage took place during this morning’s rush hour and caused an eight mile tailback to Marsh Way, Rainham.
