Campaign to stop leisure centre closing gathers strength

A campaign to save Atherton Leisure Centre from closure will hold a public meeting on Friday (November 4) at 7.30pm at The Highway Church, Romford Road, Stratford.

Newham Council insists it is being forced to close the centre on Romford Road at the end of the year and build a new fully accessible replacement with a pool, because of spiralling costs.

But more than 3,500 residents have already signed a petition demanding it remain open.
