Russell Slade’s four-year spell as O’s boss could be over if he doesn’t pick up three points at Notts County on Tuesday.

Slade was informed after today’s 2-0 home defeat to Colchester United that the Notts County game on Tuesday would be his last if he fails to pick up a win.

Sporting Director Mauro Milanese was the man to pass the message on to the O’s boss from ‘President’ Francesco Becchetti after the 2-0 loss to the U’s, and now Slade must rally the troops to try and get the three points at Meadow Lane on Tuesday, otherwise his time at Brisbane Road will come to an end.

“The president has been honest enough via Mauro Milanese to tell me we have got one game to sort it out so hopefully we get a response on Tuesday,” said Slade

“That’s in terms of my future, obviously today’s result is not a great one for the football club, these things can happen but obviously the president will want better than that.”

Slade was naturally disappointed to hear of that news, and feels the bigger picture should be looked at by the O’s new owner.

“We all want better than that and you have to look at the bigger picture not just the short term picture but the situation is we need to get a win on Tuesday or that will be curtains,” he added.

All this comes after a run of six league games with just one league win on the board, from their opening six games, though there have been Cup successess at Plymouth Argyle, Peterborugh United and most famously Aston Villa in the League Cup.

But that seems to have counted for very little as Slade faces a do or die game at Meadow Lane on Tuesday night. And even if he wins that, who is to say he will not be sacked the game after that?

All of last season’s good work that Slade had done in getting the O’s on the verge of the Championship appears to be in vain.

And it would be ironic if Notts County, the side where the O’s boss started his managerial career, could be where his Orient one ends.
