The summer may be drawing to a close but the borough’s residents still have one free festival left to enjoy.

They can look forward to live music, fireworks and water sports at the Waterfront Festival which takes place on Royal Victoria Dock on September 20.

The fun starts at 2pm and will include a music stage featuring 70s UK soul sensation The Real Thing, home-grown talent Candy Apple Blue and Heart FM’s DJ Roberto.

You can while away some time on the water by jumping on a pleasure boat, joining the Newham Sea Cadets or rowing your own boat, all for free. You can also get wet, wild and whacky by giving wakeboarding and paddle boarding a go, at reduced costs.

Or if you want to keep your feet firmly on dry land, residents and little ones can build a coral reef out of recycled materials, pan for gold, have a go on the climbing wall, take part in Zumba and salsa classes on the beach or try their hand at tying knots.

There will be an area dedicated to entertaining the under-5s as well, as well as balloon modelling, face painting and a food village. A firework display set to music will bring the day to a close at 7.45pm.

Sir Robin Wales, Mayor of Newham, said: “The Waterfront Festival is a fantastic opportunity for Newham residents to enjoy a range of different activities in the historic Royal Docks.

“The festival concludes our free summer events programme which have showcased what a fantastic place Newham is and all the exciting things on offer across the borough, I hope residents come along and don’t miss out on the last chance to celebrate summer with us.”
